Since 1979, YYZ has supported critical and experimental artistic practices of all mediums and forms. The new identity and website amplifies the artists, creating a framework that steps back so artists can step forward. The logo was drawn to create space for the artists, a modular structure that expands, contracts, and responds to the work it holds.
When YYZ opened its doors in 1979, it joined a growing movement of artist-run centres redefining what a gallery could be. YYZ has since functioned as a true artists’ outlet in every sense of the word, both a noun and verb.
We created a new website and that extends that ethos into the digital space. Clear and open layouts that prioritize the art and artist. The result is an online experience that doesn’t just showcase art, but make more room for it to exist.
The result is a brand that amplifies YYZ’s longstanding mission: to advocate for artists, protect experimentation, and ensure that the outlet remains open and accessible to all forms of art.
